Black Owned Beauty Retailer Raises $8 Million to Drive Expansion

Nyakio Greco is the Co-founder of thirteen lune, a digital platform that supports Black and Brown-founded beauty brands. During one of their investment runs, the company was able to bring in the sum of $8 million in seed-plus investments.

Thirteen Lune has reported that among the most notable names to contribute to this investment include the Fearless Fund, Capstar Ventures, Diddy, Gwyneth Paltrow, Hannah Bronfman, and Naomi Watts.

“As a 20-plus year Black beauty entrepreneur, it’s an honor to shape the landscape of inclusive beauty, acting as an agent of change for BIPOC brand founders to receive recognition and opportunity,” said Nyakio Grieco said.

“Our partners share Thirteen Lune’s mission to support diverse founders who have historically had fewer resources and opportunities to build a business and create generational wealth.”

The Rapid Rise

The Black-owned beauty retailer has grown exponentially since being founded in 2020. The platform now holds more than 160 black-owned beauty brands, growing from featuring just 13 Black-owned brands when it first began in 2020.

Thirteen Lune plans to use the newly acquired capital for The BrainTrust Fund to support the online site’s expansion in 2023. The company is also expected to reach profitability this year with the latest investment.

With regard to the rapid growth of the company, thirteen lune CEO and Co-Founder Patrick Herning said, “we’ve proven that inclusivity and scalability are not mutually exclusive. With a mission to inspire the discovery of BIPOC-founded brands for people of all colors and backgrounds.”

“We enter 2023 continuing to lead with intention and authenticity that will position us to continue our growth and momentum.”
